How to verify whether the manufactured and inspected parts are within design specification for GD&T drawing - position of hole
For a manufactured part with these dimensions measured in inspection.
Case 1 :
Size measured is 15.05
Deviation of axis of hole from axis of datum B is 0.1
Location of hole from datum A is 50.2
Whether the part is within spec or out of specification?
Tolerance zone definition :
Tolerance zone is the yellow circle
Size of tolerance zone = Geometric tolerance + bonus tolerance
Bonus tolerance = deviation from MMC = 15.05-14.9=0.15
Total tolerance zone size = 0.15+0.2 = 0.35 mm
The horizontal deviation from axis is 0.1 and vertical deviation from Basic 50 is 0.2 (50.2 -50 ) so we can construct a point diagram in tolerance zone and find the radial distance of new point from the fixed tolerance zone and find out whether the point lies within the yellow circle
Reference diagram of tolerance zone and location of as measured hole centre :
Actual location of point to scale :
Point lies outside the tolerance zone hence part is rejected as per design intent !
